Sanam Navsarka case under Kirklees Council review

AN urgent review into the tragedy of Sanam Navsarka has been instigated by Kirklees Council.

It is the third such review by the authority, in the wake of the murder of Leticia Wright, at Moldgreen, and the kidnapping of Shannon Matthews.

But Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman insists that Kirklees Council’s policy towards children’s welfare is good.

And he said it would be wrong to label the council another Haringey or Doncaster.

A spokesman said the review had been ordered into the case but stressed Sanam had not been on the child protection register.

“The death of any child under any circumstances is a tragic and traumatic occurrence. When the death is caused by injuries and abuse inflicted by adults closest to the child concerned, it becomes even more difficult to comprehend.

“We have been shocked and deeply saddened by the death of Sanam, whose fatal injuries, as the evidence presented in court highlighted, occurred during the very final weeks and days of her life.
