Family fundraiding means new nurse for lupus cases

“I’ve been to the hospital to meetJayne McDermott. She is a lovely warm person, who will do a really good job, I’m sure.

“The fundraising we’ve done means we have been able to help the baby unit at Leeds General Infirmary, the rheumatology department at Chapel Allerton and now help fund the nurse at Sheffield. Angharad’s death has helped others.”

Chris Maker, director of Lupus UK said: “We are very grateful for the wonderful donation of more than £12,000 raised in Angharad’s memory and especially that these funds could be used locally for the benefit of lupus patients in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire area.”

The trustees of Lupus UK have agreed grants of £143,914 to fund the post for a three-year period.

Around 50,000 Britons – 90% of them women – suffer from lupus.

Lupus UK funds research into the disease, raises awareness and provides support.
