Villages get spy cameras to target yobs

SPY cameras are being installed in two villages to target crime and anti-social behaviour.

A portable CCTV camera is to be switched on at the Parkside Estate in Flockton.

A camera is also going up in Skelmanthorpe village centre.

They are part of the ongoing Kirklees Focus initiative, a joint project between the police, Kirklees Council and other agencies to improve people’s quality of life.

Insp Nicholas Harvey, from Kirkburton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This should act as a deterrent and will capture any incidents of anti-social behaviour or any other crime.

“We can then review the footage captured and use it as evidence if required.”

The Focus scheme will move to the Kirkburton ward on Monday and Tuesday.

It is concentrating particularly on Flockton, Shelley, Skelmanthorpe and Clayton West.

The NPT will work alongside offender management teams, officers on off-road bikes, the fire service, parking enforcement officers, local councillors, licensing officers, DVLA wheel clampers, community rangers, environmental wardens and dog wardens.

Street signs will be put up telling people they are on camera.
