Bradley Mills door firm hit by major fire - picture

FIRE ripped through a Huddersfield door business.

Four fire engines were called out to deal with the blaze at Oakwood Doors at Riverside Works on Bradley Mills Road yesterday.

They were there for more than four hours, bringing the fire under control and then damping down.

Staff at the company had spotted the flames in the paint-spraying building of the business at about 11am.

Watch manager Andy Flynn from Huddersfield fire station said: “It was far bigger than they could deal with themselves so we were called out.

“The staff had already evacuated the premises by the time we got there. There were about five people standing outside.

“We immediately realised there was the need for more pumps.”

As well as the two engines from Huddersfield, crews from Elland and Brighouse were also called out.

Three firefighting jets were used, but Mr Flynn said there was a fight to put out the hotspots once the major blaze was under control.
