Huddersfield Parish Church work gets go-ahead
Mar 3 2009 by Emma Davison, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
A PROJECT to breathe new life into Huddersfield Parish Church has finally been given the go-ahead.
Last year the Examiner reported how Kirklees councillors had been advised to turn down proposals for the £1m revamp, but gave permission after they heard how it was vital to opening up the church for disabled access.
Now final approval has been given to the plans and building work on the extension is ready to start once the church’s fundraising target is reached. The new entrance will be an octagonal shape and take on a form similar to the existing clergy and choir vestry extensions at the east end of the church.
It will be glazed and provide a link between the different levels of the church, creating a sense of drama and movement within the building.
