Lorry crashes into Longwood house - pictures

Ballroyd Lane

A MOTHER and toddler felt their cottage ‘judder’ when a 40ft lorry smashed into it yesterday.

It’s not the first time Annette and Chris Blythe’s home has fallen foul of lorries getting stuck on Ballroyd Lane in Longwood.

In fact it’s the third time a jam has occurred after lorries attempt an impossible right turn on to Church Street from St Mark’s Road, and end up stuck on Ballroyd Lane.

Chris, 42, rushed home from work at 2.40pm to check his wife and two-year-old daughter were okay after the gas expeller was knocked off his house and a gas pipe crushed.

But there was nothing he could do until the lorry, which was inches away from his house, was towed away.

The self-employed ceramic tiler said: “My wife was in the house with the baby and she said it just juddered as the vehicle hit it.”

“The lorry is still stuck there now and we’re waiting for some tow trucks to pull him out.

“The police have blocked off Church Street so it’s causing a traffic jam there.”
