Fair in Greenhead Park starts new row

COUNCIL officials have sparked controversy by picking Greenhead Park to host another major event.
The landmark Huddersfield park was not due to hold any more events before work started on a multi-million pound revamp later this year.
But it has now been revealed that thousands of people will descend on the park for the annual Easter Fair, over the Easter weekend.
The decision, by Kirklees Council, will cause concern, coming less than a year after the park was turned into a mudbath by a travelling circus.
Greenhead Park manager Robert Whittaker told the annual meeting of the Friends Of Greenhead Park group about the decision on Saturday.
He said a number of alternative sites had been considered.
But he added: “For one reason or another the other sites weren’t suitable.
“In the end it was going to be that there was no Easter Fair or it was going to be in Greenhead Park, with somewhere else sorted out for next year.”
Last year’s fair was held at St George’s Square and the Old Goods Yard behind the railway station.
