Second death at Fartown junction

A SPOT where a pedestrian died was the same where a biker lost his life a year ago.

Inquiries are continuing into the accident which led to the death of the 38-year-old man on Friday evening.

He was hit by a Mercedes C180 car on Alder Street at its junction with Flint Street in Fartown at about 6.15pm.

The tragedy happened little more than a year after a motorcyclist died after colliding with a car on Alder Street near the same junction.

Paul Davies was killed instantly when his Honda Fireblade hit the car at around 70mph on February 10 last year.

Two serious accidents have also happened within the last year at the other end of Flint Street at its junction with Bradford Road.

In Friday’s tragedy the pedestrian was given emergency treatment at the scene before being rushed to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, but he died later from his injuries.

Police cordoned off both ends of Alder Street, which is a 30mph zone, for about five hours after it happened.

A block was also in place at the junction of Flint Street and Bradford Road.

Further details about what happened have yet to be released, although it is understood the car stopped at the scene.

Police said they wanted to inform the family of the dead man before releasing his identity.
