M62 delays after tanker fire at rush-hour

A SALT tanker burst into flames on the M62 at rush-hour yesterday.

The driver of the lorry escaped uninjured after his cab burst into flames at 4.45pm.

The fire meant all three lanes of the motorway between junction 25 and 26 east bound were closed as fire crews tackled the blaze.

The driver had just pulled over on to the hard shoulder before the fire engulfed the 18 tonne truck.

Fire crews from three stations rushed to the scene near Hartshead Moor Services to tackle the flames.

Fire crews say the tanker contained nonhazardous table salt.
