THE fight to save a threatened Mirfield school has again been taken to Downing Street.
An angry Tory councillor at Kirklees Council has set up a petition at the No10 Downing Street website in a last-ditch attempt to save Castle Hall School.
And Tories are also pledging to lobby the council’s Cabinet when they meet for a crucial meeting on Thursday.
The Cabinet will be deciding on multi-million pound plans for the future of schooling across North Kirklees.
They caused uproar last week when they recommended shutting Castle Hall – despite previously rejecting a Tory plan to shut the school.
The Tories deputy leader Clr Martyn Bolt said: “At 5pm on Thursday in Dewsbury Town Hall the newly-elected coalition cabinet running Kirklees will pass their plans for the future of education across the north of the borough.
“The plans have attracted controversy as they include the closure of Castle Hall School in Mirfield, a proposal retracted by the previous Conservative Cabinet having heard the strength of feeling from residents.
“We are also worried about the refusal to accept the wishes of the Muslim population and provide single sex education in Batley and the loss of a new high school in the Birkenshaw area.
“That was a Conservative proposal which led to the loss of their administration when the others parties passed a vote of no confidence in January.
