Water treatment works at Cooper Bridge has giant waste water pipe installed

A GIANT waste water pipe to serve thousands of people in Kirklees and Calderdale has been put into place in a feat of spectacular engineering.

The 80-tonne pipe was lowered across the River Calder by a huge crane.

The pipe, which spans 55m and has a diameter of 1.9m, is part of a £26m upgrade to meet the future needs of Huddersfield and Brighouse.

It will connect homes and businesses in both areas to Yorkshire Water’s newly-upgraded Lower Brighouse Treatment Works, off Cooper Bridge Road, Cooper Bridge.

The new treatment plant was built by infrastructure specialists Morgan Est and designed by Grontmij as part of the project.

The pipe and works should be commissioned and integrated into Yorkshire Water’s sewerage system next year.
