Fixby action group forms against green belt housing plans

ANGRY residents have formed an action group to protest against council plans to build on green belt land.

Fixby Action Group formed on Thursday to object to proposals to build on a field next to Gernhill Avenue, Lightridge Road and Clough Lane, Fixby.

Kirklees Council has earmarked the site to build 350 homes as part of its Local Development Framework (LDF).

The LDF, which has four alternative options, aims to build 37,000 homes and regenerate commerce and industry across Kirklees.

The green land at Fixby has been selected in two of the four options.

And the action group says the land makes up half of the green belt area picked for development across the borough.

They fear more housing will destroy wildlife, clog roads and put pressure on the area’s services.

Now the group, formed by Gernhill Avenue residents Dianne and Graeme Stockings along with Paul and Karen Oldfield, is encouraging neighbours to voice their concerns to the council.
