Volunteer to beat the credit crunch for Reading Matters charity

VOLUNTEER your way into work during the recession.

That’s the advice of people behind a new scheme in Huddersfield.

It means you can beat the crunch and help yourself by helping out.

The idea of becoming a volunteer is a good way to develop new skills and gain valuable experience that could give people the edge when it comes to job hunting.

Volunteers are being urged to try out something new or add to the experience they have already got.

Most volunteering opportunities only take a couple of hours a week and there are hundreds of different ones to choose from.

Sharron Wilkinson, from Volunteering Kirklees, said: “Most of our opportunities are with locally based charities, and we have some more practical ones where you can gain experience in youth work, catering or retail. The list is endless.”
