THE HUNT for a brutal killer continued today after a man was shot dead in a targeted attack in Thornton Lodge.
The 28-year-old has not been named, but is believed to be from Birkby.
A 26-year-old man was also injured in the shooting on Brook Street at 3.50am yesterday.
He was treated in hospital but his injuries were not life-threatening.
Today police are working on the theory that shots were fired into a black Audi Q7 containing three men – the driver and two victims in the back seat.
Detectives were also keen to learn more about the Audi itself – registration GV07UUW – which was recovered in Manor Street, Newsome, shortly after the shooting.
Officers were called to Brook Street in the early hours of Friday morning after gunshots were heard being fired.
An Audi was seen containing three men.
The 28-year-old back seat passenger was taken to hospital but died of gun shot wounds.
The 26-year-old – thought to be from Thornton Lodge – was also injured in the shooting and taken to hospital.
Yesterday, shocked residents woke up to find their homes surrounded by police tape.
The cordon stretched from Moorbottom Road, Crosland Road, Brook Street and Thorne Road, surrounding the previously burnt-out Thornton Lodge Community Centre.
One householder awoke to find his home sealed with police tape.
