Van smash wrecks wall and building
THIS was the scene after a van smashed into an isolated building on a winding main road.
A gaping hole was left in the side of the small stone building at Greenfield Road above Holmfirth – believed to be a storage unit owned by Holme Valley artist Trevor Stubley.
The driver of a white Ford Transit collided with it after losing control as he drove down the road at about 8am on Saturday.
He broke a leg, but may have been saved from more serious injury by the crash as the building sits on the edge of a steep embankment.
Police said problems started when the 25-year-old man lost control of his vehicle at speed and veered off the side of the road.
It is believed the van hit a low wall separating the road from the drop and travelled about 25 yards on top of the wall before smashing into the building.
