TOP teacher Jane Acklam is in the running for a national award.
The head teacher of Moor End Technology College in Crosland Moor has been shortlisted for a Teaching Award.
Judges visited the school last month to ask pupils, parents and teachers about Mrs Acklam.
She said: “It was a little strange to think that people were talking about me for five hours. I went in to speak to the assessors for the last 20 minutes so I hope I lived up to what everyone said about me.”
The awards ceremony takes place in June. But Mrs Acklam is happy just to be shortlisted for Head Teacher of the Year. She said: “I feel very humble and touched by this.”
Mrs Acklam, 42, has been head teacher at Moor End for six years. Before that she was a deputy head teacher at a school in Sheffield.
She said: “What’s important to me is that the children carry on learning and improving. Everything we do is linked to that.”
Mrs Acklam lives near Penistone and has been a teacher for 20 years.
Her colleague Jackie Good, who works as a behaviour improvement worker, has been nominated for Teaching Assistant of the Year at the regional Teaching Awards.
