Community rallies for theft-hit Castle Hill school

GENEROUS well-wishers have come forward to help a Huddersfield school.

The benefactors have offered to donate hundreds of pounds to Castle Hill School – hit by a mean theft last week.

Intruders who broke into the Newsome school, which deals with children with severe and complex special needs, and had six bikes and scooters stolen from a shed in the grounds.

It meant the youngsters had no play equipment for their breaks.

But three of the stolen bikes have now been recovered, following an appeal in the Examiner.

And a number of people have offered money to the school to pay for replacements.

School spokesman Gillian Messenger said: “It restores your faith in human kindness.

“We were delighted when the police came to the school and told us that three of the bikes had been recovered from the River Colne at the bottom of Newsome Road.
