TUES PM: Man arrested over doorstep conman claims
Apr 21 2009 By Andrew Jackson
A MAN has appeared in court charged with trying to fleece people in Marsh, Paddock and Edgerton.
The 33-year-old appeared at Dewsbury Magistrates' Court yesterday to face five charges of fraud by false representation yesterday.
Police put out a second warning about the man last week.
The man was reported to police after claiming to have lost a family member and needing to borrow money to travel back to Manchester.
On other occasions, he claimed he had broken down and needed money for travel.
The latest reports followed a number of similar reports from the Paddock and Marsh areas during February and March of this year.
On Thursday, February 26 a man is reported to have visited a property on Heaton Road in Paddock claiming to be a new neighbour.
He spoke to a woman at the address for around 15 minutes before asking to borrow some money to pay for the heating engineer.
The woman handed over money believing he was genuine.
