Huddersfield sisters are really cutting it as Subway franchisees
SISTERS Kay Mulligan and Tracey Worden have got an appetite for business.
The ambitious siblings have set up a thriving franchise business running five local Subway sandwich outlets in Huddersfield and Birstall – and its a real family affair.
Kay and Tracey, who both live in Longwood, are directors of the business along with mother Susan Lightfoot while father Fred is also involved overseeing the maintenance tasks required in their busy stores.
The family are involved in every aspect of the business from administration to human resources and finance.
And the sisters were inspired to become entrepreneurs by two of their uncles, who have been successfully running Subway takeaways in Bristol and Warrington for a number of years.
Kay previously worked for a financial services company while Tracey was employed in the finance department of Huddersfield University.
And having a feel for figures has paid off in their new roles as entrepreneurs.
They opened their first Subway in 2003 at Market Place in Huddersfield before adding the outlet at nearby King Street in 2004; Wakefield Road, Aspley, in 2005; Westbourne Road, Marsh, in 2006; and Bradford Road, Birstall in 2007. Together, they employ 55 people.
