Karen Matthews remains unrepentant

JAILBIRD Karen Matthews misses sex, shopping and coffee.

But in an interview from Peterborough Prison, Shannon Matthews’ mum made no mention of her seven children.

The 33-year-old was jailed for eight years at Leeds Crown Court in January after she was found guilty of kidnapping and falsely imprisoning her nine-year-old daughter and perverting the course of justice.

Asked what she missed, she said: “Sex, shopping and coffee at my neighbour’s house.”

Matthews denied the charges throughout the trial last year and blamed the crime on other people.

And in her interview, she remained unrepentant.

She claimed she was framed by her accomplice, Michael Donovan, 40, who kept Shannon captive in his flat in Batley Carr for 24 days.

The pair hatched the plan in order to claim a £50,000 reward offered by a national newspaper.

Matthews said: “My downfall has always been men. I get the blame for everything.

“I am sorry – sorry that I am in here serving time for something I didn’t do.
