Conlon on crime: Cash swap swindle

LAST week I appealed for help to catch the person responsible for the theft of a wallet from a bank customer.

As the result of a great response to the CCTV images published in the Examiner, a 51-year-old woman has now been arrested and charged with the offence.

Many thanks to all those who contacted us. It demonstrates the importance of the public’s help with police work.

This week two of our suspects are believed to have conned a shop cashier out of money.

The two men walked into furnishings store Dunelm on Beck Road at lunchtime on March 11 carrying £200 in £20 notes.

They told the woman they wanted to exchange them for £10 notes and handed the bundle of cash over.

The cashier counted out £200 in £10 notes and gave them to one of the men.

But the suspects then said they had changed their minds and wanted the £20 notes back.
