Jail for Fartown man on drugs charges

“He says he got into bad company and seized the opportunity to try and earn some money by dealing in drugs,’’ said Mr Hill-Baker.

Jailing Duric Recorder Tahir Khan said he was dealing with him on the basis that he was arrested before he had the chance to supply any of the cocaine.

The judge said he also accepted that the knife and imitation gun were not related to the drugs matters.

But he said a prison sentence had to be impose to discourage others from getting involved in the supply of Class A drugs.

“It has long been recognised that people who involve themselves in Class A drugs almost inevitably have to go to prison,’’ said Recorder Khan.

“So much of the crime that these courts have to deal with arises either directly or indirectly as a result of the drugs trade.’’
