M-way gridlocked as driver is pulled from wrecked car

Watch manager Gary Butcher, from Elland fire station, said: “They were worried about possible internal injuries, so they wanted to put him on a long-board and secure him with a collar. But he was very lucky – it could have been a lot worse.”

The HGV driver was unhurt.

Highways officials closed the road for about half an hour while the incident was dealt with, causing huge tailbacks.
