ONE of three men on trial for murdering Billy Khan yesterday admitted to making the stab wound that killed him.
But murder accused Miftah Ul-Haq said he plunged a kitchen knife into Khan’s stomach to save his brother.
Ul-Haq, 40 along with his brother Mohammed Farooq, 51 and nephew Kayshan Farooq, 29 are co-accused of the murder of Khan, 33 and the attempted murder of his brother Yusuf Khan in Elland last August.
They deny the charge and also deny wounding Yusuf Khan, 29 with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.
In an interview with Det Con Martin Buggy of the West Yorkshire Police Homicide Team, Ul-Haq of Elizabeth Street, Elland admitted grabbing a kitchen knife before an altercation in the street with the Khan brothers.
In his statement Ul-Haq said he had told the Khans he had no problem with them but the threats had continued.
He said: “They showed a knife and threatened to hurt the children.
“They said ‘we’re going to cut your throat, we know your children are out and we're going to kill them’.
Det Con Buggy asked: “Did you actually see a knife?”
Ul-Haq replied: “They showed me one with a black handle, I don’t know how long.
. “They said ‘don’t you know who we are? We kill and we stab people and we're going to kill your children’.”
Ul-Haq rushed home and asked his wife where his children were?
But when he was told they were out playing he panicked.
