Man rang 999 before Fartown stabbing - but told not an emergency

A MAN said he was threatened with a knife hours before someone else in his block of flats was stabbed.

John Nuttall, of Bradford Road, Fartown, told the Examiner that on Friday, May 8, at around 10pm a man knocked on his door.

"He was waving the knife around and talking gibberish," he said.

John, 41, said he slammed the door shut and then heard the man running up the stairs.

He then called 999 to report the incident.

He said: "The woman on the end of the line said I had the wrong number.’’

He claims she told him that as the man had left it was a non-emergency and should not have been a 999 call.

John added: "I was so gobsmacked I couldn’t believe what she had done.

"I said: ‘Are you having a laugh?’ And then I told her to forget it.

"If the police had come round then maybe it would have stopped what happened."
