Warning after Huddersfield man dies sniffing lighter fuel

Miss Clay said that when she arrived, he had already inhaled the cans and they started another one together when he suddenly collapsed. Paramedics arrived but he was pronounced dead in hospital.

A post mortem examination revealed that Mr Fitzpatrick died from the toxic effects of inhaling butane.

Miss Clay admitted she knew inhaling gas ‘wasn’t good’ but said she wasn’t aware of how dangerous it could be.

Mr Fitzpatrick’s dad Keith slammed the shopkeeper who sold the substance in large quantities to the teenager.

Recording that Mr Fitzpatrick died from solvent abuse, Mr Hinchliffe said: "This is one of the most dangerous abusive substances that young people can become involved with. It’s a concern that a shopkeeper allowed a young person to buy significant quantities.

"Adam was a young man in the prime of life and this is a tragic waste."
