Residents protest over Honley Cricket Club’s plans for a 2am licence

RESIDENTS are again protesting over a cricket club’s late-night opening plans.
Honley Cricket Club has applied to Kirklees Council’s Licensing Panel for a licence to offer entertainment and alcohol until 2am every day of the week.
It comes just days after Shepley Cricket Club applied to extend its alcohol licence until 4am for Shepley Spring Festival.
The plan was opposed by residents who feared regular late events.
The Shepley licence was granted on May 11, on condition that the club notifies the council of other events outside normal hours.
The panel will decide on May 19 whether to grant the licence for the Honley club.
Six residents have objected. Most of the concerns centre around noise caused by people leaving the premises late at night.
The Very Rev Henry Stapleton, of Marsh Gardens, said: “We have accepted the limit to midnight.
“However, it would be inappropriate for people to be woken after 2am.”
