Deighton couple’s bid to prevent miscarriages

A COUPLE who lost their first baby are vowing to help other parents-to-be.

Deighton couple Richard Dawson and girlfriend Lucy Williams were devastated when Lucy had a miscarriage last May – 11 weeks into the pregnancy.

The couple found that close friends had also lost babies during pregnancy so a group of their friends are now climbing Yorkshire’s Three Peaks to support other expectant parents.

They are raising money for Tommy’s – a charity that funds medical research into pregnancy problems.

Lucy, 27, is a nurse at a Barnsley hospital.

Her partner of seven years Richard, 26, is an admin officer for a Leeds security company.

Richard said: “Lucy was 11 or 12 weeks when we lost the baby, but we didn’t realise until our first scan on the 14th week.

“It was an awful time for us both – it was our first child.

“She had to stay in hospital and go through the process which was just awful.

“I think then we knew we wanted to do something to stop anyone else going through it.

“We chose Tommy’s because it’s a baby charity trying to stop this.”
