Counter terrorism team seal off Batley home - video

An ANTI-terror squad swooped on a Kirklees house and arrested a 38-year-old man.

The home on the corner of Colbeck Terrace, in the Healey area of Batley, was sealed off while bomb disposal officers were called to the scene.

The man was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Terrorism Act 2000 and the Firearms Act.

He has been taken to a police station in West Yorkshire for questioning by officers from the Leeds-based Counter Terrorism Unit.

The squad swooped late on Thursday and counter terrorist officers along with soldiers remained there most of yesterday.

A spokeswoman for the West Yorkshire Counter Terrorism Unit said: “In connection with this investigation, potentially dangerous and explosive material was seized from a residential property in Batley.

“This has been removed by forensic officers and some material has been disposed of by specialist units.

“We recognise that local people may have concerns as a result of this activity and would like to reassure them that the property is not believed to present any risk to local residents.

“We would ask people not to be alarmed and we are grateful for the patience and understanding of people locally.”

Yesterday afternoon two Royal Logistics Corps bomb disposal soldiers could be seen taking equipment from a bomb disposal truck into the property.
