No charge against fire engine driver over Lockwood death
May 25 2009 by Neil Atkinson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
NO action will be taken against a fire engine driver who knocked down a man who later died.
Robert Senior, 37, suffered from severe head injuries when he was one of three people struck by the vehicle at a crossing on Lockwood Road, on Saturday, January 10.
He died six days later at Leeds General Infirmary.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said no charges will be held against the driver of the fire engine, who was responding to reports of people trapped in a house fire.
It was around 4.45pm on January 10 when the fire engine hit Mr Senior, Kathleen Stephenson and their carer Susan Howely.
The two women were only hurt slightly, but Mr Senior suffered extensive injuries, including massive bleeding to his brain.
Det Supt Sukhbir Singh, of West Yorkshire Homicide and Major Inquiry Team previously told the details of the tragic incident at Mr Senior’s inquest.
