HUNDREDS of supermarket staff in Huddersfield are among Tesco workers UK-wide to scoop share bonuses worth £98m after the retailer unveiled record annual results.
Tesco said all 207,000-plus staff – from checkout workers to store managers – who have worked with the supermarket giant for at least a year by the end of February are eligible for the free shares, offering 3.6% of salary, up to a maximum of £3,000.
Tesco has major stores at Viaduct Street in Huddersfield and Huddersfield Road, Brighouse, as well as Tesco Express outlets at Dalton and Marsh.
The company has tabled controversial plans to replace its Viaduct Street store with a new superstore built on the site of Huddersfield sports centre and the Ibbotson and Lonsborough flats at Southgate.
Under the proposals, a new sports centre would be built at Springwood and Tesco’s existing store at Viaduct Street demolished for development by the retailer.
The bumper shares handout for staff is part of the company’s Shares in Success scheme.
