Barry supports Baha’is

HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman has thrown his support behind a campaign by Kirklees’ Baha’i community.
Seven Baha’is have spent a year imprisoned in Iran without charges or seeing their lawyer and Mr Sheerman has joined the local assembly in calling for their release.
Christine Deihim, secretary of the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Kirklees, said: “We are extremely grateful that our MP, Barry Sheerman, will raise the subject with the Foreign Secretary.
“Today Baha’is are accused of all manner of crimes in Iran, but the truth is this is blatant religious persecution.”
Baha’ism was founded in Iran in 1863 and its central theme is that all religions are different faces of the same religion, worshipping the same God but in different ways.
