Action call on Huddersfield bus service cuts

A CALL for proposed bus service cuts to be scrapped has been made by the Green party.
They claim hundreds of people will be affected by the swingeing cuts – due to be implemented on July 19 across West Yorkshire.
Martin Hemingway, a Green candidate in this week’s Euro elections, said it as one of the main topics on the doorstep.
“Passengers around Yorkshire are reacting with anger to changes in bus routes and timetables and the rise in fares.
“At a time when more and more people want to leave their cars at home and use public transport, the private bus companies are letting them down.
“Also 25% of people do not have access to a car and so are dependent on public transport. This includes a large proportion of older people and families with small children who cannot get about without a car, to do essential shopping.
“We call on the government to take bus services back into public hands.”
