Heatwave means Huddersfield is hotter than Barcelona!

THEY’RE turning out the ice-cream by the bucketload.

And it’s one way of keeping cool in Huddersfield as the heatwave continues.

Today was expected to be a little cooler but after three days in which temperatures in the town have risen above those in Barcelona, Tenerife and Ibiza, it may come as a little light relief to some.

But the good news is there is more good weather on the way.

Salendine Nook meteorologist Paul Stevens – who logged temperatures just short of 25 deg Celsius (75 degF) at the weekend – said we are in for a good summer.

"The high pressure which has brought this great weather may give way a little over the next day or two but it will still dominate.

"More good weather, even heatwaves, are on the way. We have had a very good end to May, a great start to June and the prospects of a very good summer".

That came as music to the ears of Charles Cartwright, a partner at Dixons Milk Ices of Lockwood.

He and his staff have upped production to 100 gallons a day and are delighted with the weather.

"I think the weather and the fact that people are choosing to enjoy more of their holidays at home can only be good for local businesses.
