Newsome driver wins safe driving competition and £1, 250
ANDY Peaker had absolutely no idea he had been entered into a driving competition.
The Newsome man was just going about his everyday job transporting goods for Dalton company, Total Food Service.
It was when his boss called him into the office that a shocked Andy found out he’d won £1,250.
The careful driver had beaten off competition from 50,000 other motorists in a national competition to find the UK’s safest commercial driver.
Leeds-based tracking company Masternaut Three X had placed a device in his lorry to monitor the speed and style of the 37-year-old’s driving.
And because of his careful and cautious driving he was placed in the final, along with four other drivers from across the country.
After completing an online risk awareness assessment the finalists then presented their cases to a judging panel who chose Andy for the prize.
He and his wife Joanne have already spent the money on a well-deserved holiday to Cyprus.
He said: “The best bit is that it’s based purely on the fact I make it my business to drive carefully all the time.
“It feels great that my strong belief in sticking to speed limits and ‘always expect the unexpected’ has been recognised and rewarded.
“I drive a seven-and-a-half tonner which is a lot bigger and slower and harder to manoeuvre.
