Newsome driver wins safe driving competition and £1, 250
“I worked in the warehouse before this, and only just started the driving in December last year.”
Andy, who plays cricket with Hall Bower, drives an average of 25,000 miles a year.
He passed his driving test 18 years ago and hasn’t had any major bumps in all the following years.
Masternaut Three X have announced they are also going to give £1,250 to Huddersfield road safety charity Brake.
Katie Shephard from the charity said: “We are delighted to be involved with the Drive for Life scheme and applaud Masternaut Three X’s initiative and forward thinking.
“Masternaut is not just paying lip service to safer fleets, it’s actually doing something about getting commercial drivers to take a look at and change the way they drive.”
Keith Hellawell, former chief constable of West Yorkshire Police, was part of Andy’s judging panel.
He said: “A moment’s lapse in concentration when driving can have horrific consequences for anyone. However, those who drive for a living are especially at risk because it’s more common for them to be overtaken by exhaustion or become ‘zoned out’.
“This must be addressed if we are to reduce death and serious injury to themselves and other road users.”
