Yesterday he said: “I’m very unhappy that there will be a further delay. This sort of prevarication from the LSC does no-one any good. I had hoped that work could get started on the Waterfront to help out during the recession.”
Mr Sheerman is seeking an urgent meeting with the further education minister John Denham about the issue.
He added: “I want the new Kirklees College site that was promised and I want it early.
“Of course, the college can be flexible if it means the work gets started, but these delays are demoralising staff and upsetting people locally.”
The new £70m campus would be the centrepiece of a wider £175m redevelopment of a triangle of land between Manchester Road, Chapel Hill and the River Colne.
The Waterfront Quarter plan also includes three blocks of flats and four offices buildings and would create 2,000 jobs
Kirklees Council granted planning permission for the development last September.
