Grandfather’s thanks to nurses who saved his life

A GRANDFATHER left hospitalised for two months after a motorbike crash is saying thank you to nurses who saved his life.

James (Jimmy) Gough, of Deighton, was left unconscious after his accident in November 2007.

He remained in hospital unaware of his surroundings and later unable to remember the names of the nurses he would see every day.

Even now – 16 months later – he is feeling the affects of the day.

But he and his family, including wife Dorothy and brother-in-law Christopher Forster, are now donating £660 to Pinderfields Hospital.

Mr Gough, 64, said: “Sixteen months ago I had a bike accident. It was a bad one and I was unconscious for two months.

“The wife got that knock at the door from the police telling her I’d been in an accident.

“All I know is that I went into the back of a Land Rover – I wasn’t speeding and the bike was working fine – I just don’t remember what happened.

“I was at Dewsbury DistrictHospital but I don’t remember being there.

“Then I went to Pinderfields and have little memory of that either.

“But I do know that they saved my life.

“They were brilliant. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be walking because I was in such a bad way.”

Among the injuries Mr Gough suffered were a shattered knee and broken hip in the accident on November 9 2007 in Dewsbury.
