Police seize defective taxis

SIXTEEN vehicles were seized during a police operation to crack down on vehicle crime.

The cars were taken from motorists suspected of offences including driving without insurance or a valid licence.

Five taxis were seized for serious vehicle defects and nine vehicles were clamped for not being properly taxed.

In all, during the Kirklees Focus operation in Dewsbury, 8,759 vehicles were checked by the DVLA.

The police also carried out on-street stop-and-searches.

They found two people carrying cannabis.
