Calderdale man has swine flu

A second case was confirmed in the same area on June 2.

Scotland is the hardest hit part of the UK per head of population.

Three people – two woman aged 23 and 38 and a 45-year-old man – are in intensive care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley.

A 37-year-old man is also in a critical but stable condition in Glasgow’s Victoria Infirmary.

Three of the four patients have an underlying health condition.

The World Health Organisation has now warned it is "getting closer" to declaring a global outbreak of the virus.

The WHO said the virus appeared to be taking hold outside of North America.

Health chiefs have issued a number of health measures to help prevent the spread of swine flu.

These include good basic hygiene by washing hands frequently with soap and water, cleaning hard surfaces like door handles and covering noses and mouths when coughing or sneezing.

Tissues should also be used and disposed of carefully. People should also try to make sure their children follow the advice.
