Huddersfield’s SWEET project needs volunteers to help support sex workers and their families

"It can take a while for things to get processed but I would encourage people to stick with it."

She stressed that each volunteer will be judged on their merits and all volunteers accepted will get one-to-one support, supervision and a mentor.

June, from Rastrick, is a Sweet project worker and first joined as a volunteer.

She said: "Volunteering is a fantastic way of getting back into the workforce.

"Through volunteering my confidence has grown enormously.

"I have gained skills around 21st Century working."

Julia added: "Sweet is not just about empowering the women that are involved in prostitution, it’s about empowering all of us.

"June’s example is that she volunteered and was empowered by that."
