New pizza claiming to be Huddersfield's biggest
WITH the recession hitting peoples’ pockets hard, for many eating in has become the new eating out.
In the pizza trade, business is booming and one Huddersfield cafe has come up with a way of giving families more dough for their dough.
The Hi-talian Cafe in Macaulay Street has created what is thought to be Huddersfield’s largest pizza.
The Family Tray is a massive 28ins x 14ins – so big that special equipment had to be ordered so it could fit in the cafe’s ovens.
Owner Alison McGrath said she got the idea to create the rectangle-shaped pizza from the similar Pizzettes, which families in Italy eat for breakfast.
She said: "With my husband being Italian we decided to do something different like this with the idea that it could feed a whole family or group of friends at a reasonable cost."
We had to have special trays made to make it fit into our ovens and we had a special box commissioned, which comes wrapped like a present."
"We’ve just launched it but we’re expecting it to be very popular– it must be the biggest pizza in Huddersfield!"
The £20 pizza can be made using up to four different combinations of toppings and cut into 14 slices.
It is made on site using fresh ingredients and is made as healthily as possible with no added hydrogenated or trans fats.
Alison says the pizza can easily feed a family and is also ideal for groups opting for a night in instead of a pricier evening out.
She said: "At the moment businesses like ours are doing very well because people are opting to stay in and eat rather than go out.
"People still want a treat but they are more limited so we wanted to offer them something that was good value for money in the credit crunch.
"They are getting up to four different pizzas in one which means lots of different groups can enjoy it– from lads staying in watching the football to children at parties.
"And if they can’t eat it all, they can always freeze it!"
