Teenage Emley cricket star snaps up a double hat-trick - and still loses

YOUNG cricketer Ike Martin is the talk of his team.

The Emley Clarence junior pulled off a remarkable double hat-trick in this week’s Huddersfield Under 15 League game against Cumberworth.

The 14-year-old Shelley College student struck an incredible SIX times in SIX deliveries, spread over two overs.

And it could have been even better, as Ike went into the game on a hat-trick, having captured two wickets with his final two balls of the previous game, against Clayton West.

Sadly, he missed that one – and despite his efforts, Emley Clarence lost this week’s match, by 20 runs. They were all out for 60, chasing Cumberworth’s score of 80.

Bowling medium pace, Ike was in the third over of his four-over allocation when with his second delivery he clean bowled his first victim.

With his third delivery the batsman spooned a catch to a close-in fielder, before the Emley lad followed up by clean bowling the next two victims and ended the over with another close-in catch to make it five out of five.

And he rounded off the amazing feat by bowling another Cumberworth batsman with the first ball of his fourth over.

Ike, who had recently moved down from Cumbria with mum Joan and her partner John to live at Flouch, joined the Emley team this season and plays football with Lepton Highlanders.

Ike said: "I used to play school cricket in Ullswater but this is my first club.
