Iraq medal for soldier Robert Myall, of Huddersfield

A YOUNG Huddersfield soldier has been honoured for his outstanding dedication to operations in Iraq.

Private Robert Myall, 22, was one of 80 troops to receive operational medals in recognition of their efforts during a six-month tour of Iraq.

A former pupil of Salendine Nook High School, Pte Myall was accompanied on the day by his parents Noelle and Shaun.

“We are just so proud of him and what he is achieving”, said Shaun. “We’re very pleased to have him back safe and sound and we couldn’t be more thrilled for him getting the medal.”

More than 80 soldiers from 214 squadron, part of the 2nd Signal Regiment based at Imphal Barracks in York, received operational medals from the Lord Mayor of York, Clr John Galvin, a former Huddersfield man, and the Commander of 15 (North East) Brigade, Brigadier David Maddan.

Family, friends and members of the public watched the parade which marked the homecoming of the squadron from their last tour of duty in Iraq.

Capt Damien Corcoran said: “214 Signal Squadron’s job in Iraq was to provide a broad spectrum of communication and information systems to allow all of the British Forces in the operational theatre to communicate securely.”
