Firefighters rescue man trapped beneath door

A MAN was in hospital last night – after being crushed beneath a heavy shutter door.
The man, who has not been named, was trying to fix the ¾-tonne roller doors to a garage workshop in Bath Street at Dewsbury.
He was working on a scaffolding tower when the mechanism gave way, trapping one of his legs.
His cries for help were heard by family members in his nearby home and they raised the alarm.
Dewsbury firefighters had to shore up the mechanism using giant airbags before they could rescue the man.
A brigade spokesman said: “It was an awkward rescue as the man was working eight feet above the ground.
“We used the airbags to hold up the door and then used more bags and planks of wood to lift it off his leg.
“He was conscious throughout but was in pain. We managed to get a splint around his leg and then strapped him to a ladder to get him down.”
