Masked robbers attack Brockholes pub couple in raid

Paul Bloor

MASKED raiders attacked a terrified couple in their bed at a Huddersfield pub.

The gang of three battered Paul and Samantha Bloor with bricks in a bid to force them to hand over takings at the Travellers’ Rest, Brockholes.

But despite their horrifying ordeal, the couple refused to hand over money and the raiders fled with just a handful of cash from a bedside table.

The Bloors, who have run the New Mill Road pub for the past six years, were treated at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for serious head and face injuries, as well as bruising.

And as detectives stepped up their hunt for the thugs, the couple admitted it was a night from hell.

“It makes you wonder if we ought to carry on in this job”, said Mrs Bloor, 37.

“Both of us have been in the pub trade for many years but this makes you think twice about continuing.”

The Bloors went to bed about 2am yesterday, after closing the pub on Sunday night and completing their paperwork.

Mrs Bloor said: “We always make certain everything is locked and secured, and the alarm was on.

“It was about 2.30am when there was the sound of breaking glass and the alarm went off. Paul went to have a look and was grabbed by three men, all masked with balaclavas, who dragged him back into the bedroom.
