Land at Scissett Baths to be sold

COUNCILLORS have agreed to sell off land next to a popular leisure centre.

The Cabinet yesterday agreed to sell part of the car park at Scissett Baths on Wakefield Road.

The land will be used by a developer to allow access to 92 new homes which are to be built next to the baths.

Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL), which runs the site, has drawn up plans to reinvest the money.

Their plans include refurbishing the reception and changing rooms and building a lift which would allow access to the first floor.

KAL also wants to build a meeting room, a studio for 20 to 25 people and extend the fitness suite.

Clr Christine Stanfield spoke in favour of the sale at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.

The Cabinet member for regeneration said: “I’m in favour of supporting this because I think the money will be useful and is needed for this development.

“I’m perfectly satisfied that we are making the best of our assets and will plough the money back into the facilities.”
