Police sniff out drug factory in Mirfield

A STRANGE smell wafting from a house led police to raid a cannabis farm.

Drugs worth £18,000 were seized from the property on Flash Lane, Mirfield.

A member of the public had tipped off police after smelling the strange odour coming from the address.

Police found around 60 cannabis plants in the house.

Sergeant Steve Forrest of the Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The plants found at this address may well have been destined for local dealing.

“It is testament to the public in Mirfield and Dewsbury that we continue to receive the information that enables us to take such positive action.

“It was particularly pleasing to make this seizure in what is National Tackling Drugs Week and should send out a message that such activity will not be tolerated in Kirklees.”

Police said the gas meter had been removed from the house which may have proved lethal.
