Busted! £13,500 of drugs seized in raid

A convoy of vehicles including marked vans carrying police community support officers as well as unmarked cars went to the raid.

As well as removing the drugs, the police dismantled the hydroponics equipment used to grow them.

Det Sgt Roebuck said: “Hopefully the evidence gained today will allow us to make an arrest.”

The police were joined by members of the Kirklees Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) team.

Their role is to speak to any drug users at a raided property to find out if they need help.

DIP project officer Det Con Sharon Choudry said: “It is an important element of the police approach. It is about looking at the long-term side of things and helping users out of the cycle of crime.”

Det Chief Insp Dave Knopwood, who is in charge of the police’s strategy on drugs in Kirklees, said Tackling Drugs Week was an opportunity to highlight the work done to stop the misery caused by drug crime.

He said: “Crimes like burglary or theft can often have ties to drugs and have a big impact on communities, affecting the quality of life for people living within our neighbourhoods. During our week of operations, we aim to reassure residents of our intent and underline that these crimes will not be tolerated at any level.

“Those involved in drugs related offences will be disrupted by our activities.

“We will be recovering any controlled drugs, stolen property or cash believed to be from the proceeds of crime. We can identify individuals and use legislation to seize their assets if we suspect they have not been obtained lawfully.”
