Memorial unveiled to stillborn babies in unmarked graves
“The reaction from people today proved it was the right thing to do.
“Now there are people in other parts of the country looking to achieve something very similar.
“Children were taken without any reference to the parents. My wife was in hospital and I was in hospital. They could have asked us.
“I’d like to find someone from the generation who made that policy to explain the rationale of why they did this.
“The ultimate thing has got to be a means of marking the individual graves and I’m quite prepared to talk to Kirklees. There’s an element of disappointment that we’re still unable to easily identify the plots.
“This is why I hope we could have some sort of little plaque that says in this area are graves of children.
“It’s not respectful to be walking over graves.”
An unveiling ceremony planned for April sparked fury among bereaved parents after it was revealed only councillors and officials would be invited.
But after protests the event was postponed to allow parents and relatives to attend.
